About

Butcher's Dog is proudly published in the heart of North East England. We publish two magazines each year. Each issue features original cover artwork and contains a selection of up to 25 exceptional poems.

Ethos
We promise to treat your work and time respectfully. Experienced editors will carefully read your poems. Your identity remains anonymous until we decide our Long List, this is when we need to see who’s who to email you an outcome. Where editors have time available and feel the submission warrants it, feedback will be given.

We are a non-profit press and charge no fees. All we ask in return is that you send us your best three unpublished poems, buy a copy of our magazine or tell your friends about our canny little press.

History
Butcher’s Dog poetry magazine was founded in Newcastle in 2012 with support from New Writing North and Arts Council England.  Each of the poets featured in the first issue received a Northern Writers’ Award in 2010 or 2011 from New Writing North. The group met under the tutorship of Clare Pollard to create an anthology of their work and Butcher’s Dog started life.

The original founders have since disbanded, moving onto new things:

Luke Allan
Jake Campbell
